Objectives of Foundation Grants

The only purpose of a Foundation grant is to provide funding for special projects and programs which benefit children.

Timing

Requests must be made in writing by July 15th.  The Foundation Board will award grants by September and will advise all applicants of the decision of the Board before the end of September.

Applying for a Grant

Recognizing that applicants differ in size and organization, the following information should be considered for the grant request as it applies to your group.

Submit two copies of the request for funding on the letterhead of the agency, signed by the President and/or Chief Executive Officer.  Include the name, address, and telephone number of the person to be contacted if more information is needed.  Provide the name of the person responsible for making the final report of the project and expenditures within one month after the end of the grant period.

Unless otherwise approved by the Foundation Board, grants are intended to be completely expended for the approved projects and programs during a one-year period year after the funds are granted.  Extensions of the time required for completion must be referred to the Foundation Board.

State the purpose of your group and describe the population you serve.  Agencies should include an annual report, copy of form 501(c) and any relevant publicity, including newspaper articles. You may wish to respond to some of the following:

  • Describe your proposed project, including a detail of the funds required.
  • How will this grant be of benefit to children who reside in Northampton County?
  • State why this project is important and why your group is the best to sponsor it.
  • Are there any other groups with similar programs and is there any duplication?
  • Is this a pilot program? Has it been tried elsewhere and what were the results?
  • Have you done a feasibility study if capital funds are required?
  • When are the funds required and how are you currently managing to fund this project?
  • Describe your efforts to obtain funding from other sources (business, foundations, government, etc.)
  • Describe how the program will be funded in the future.
